Air Source Heat Pumps (or ASHP’s) are not excessively noisy for most people. In fact, it may surprise you to learn that heat pumps are usually quieter than boilers. ASHP’s typically operate at around 40 to 60dB. To put this into context 40-45dB is a similar noise level to a quiet office or library and 50dB is similar to the noise level of a fridge.

However, there’s no getting away from it if the only suitable siting location is under a bedroom window, the hum from an ASHP could get annoying. Or what if the only suitable location on an external wall sites the ASHP on a nice alfresco dining area?

In these kinds of situation, if your customer has a decent size garden, it might be best to site the ASHP away from the property using a pre-insulated flow and return pipe system, such as AustroPEX WPP pipe from Maincor, specially designed for heat pumps.
